Fish spine beads have been used as a practical method of insulating wires with the beads interlocking together to provide continuous electrical insulation. Ceramic Substrates offer an extensive range of Standard Steatite Beads, but with our own in-house Tool Room we also manufacture to Customers specifications. One thing to bear in mind when choosing a bead to suit your application, our Standard Range are ex stock and involve NO tooling costs, but when manufactured to your own dimensions/specification there will be an added tooling costs and of course the lead-time will be slightly longer. However, because we manufacture in-house the lead time is kept as short as possible.
Fish-spine beads are short cylindrical tubes with one concave and one convex end and provide continuous shielding of a central conductor when stacked in a mating order. Their versatility is most evident in nonlinear flexible applications such as shielded coaxial vacuum cabling, projects requiring intricate layout patterns, or projects requiring motion displacement. Flexibility is affected by the wire-to-ceramic coaxial clearance so that as the wire size increases, flexibility decreases. The Ceramic Insulator Beads have excellent heat resistance and temperature resistance and are used in electrical temperatures where PTFE and Fibre glass types would not be suitable.
