May a month of Spring

May a month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.   May was named for the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman era goddess of fertility, Bona Dea, whose festival was held in May.

In May the Isle of Wight celebrates its annual Walking Festival, this year from 30 April to 15 May;  Sunday 8 May saw the Isle of Wight Friendship & Speed Dating Walk, this walk has a track record of five weddings.  On the 10 May was the ” pièce de résistance”  “Walk the Wight”.  This is a unique long-distance sponsored walk across the Isle of Wight (organised and in aid of the Island’s Earl Mountbatten Hospice).  The main walk being 26.5 miles from Bembridge to the Needles Park.  Over the years, the charity’s flagship event has raised thousands of pounds for end of life care on the Isle of Wight.   Members of the Ceramic Substrates Team have often taken part, usually booking the following day of work due to tired legs and sore feet.

Our Managing Director has been on a road trip from the South of England right up to the North of England and over the border into Scotland.   Andy spent his time visiting Customers who requested a visit to discuss new projects and implementing our  materials and manufacturing capabilities within their applications.  Sharon, always sits in the office wondering what the Hotels she has booked for him are really like, after all she has to stick to a budget!

We had Hurco on site to carry out the annual servicing of our Lathes and machining centres; as we all know maintenance is a vital  key to any manufacturing business.  No-one wants loss of production caused by equipment breakdowns and waiting for spare parts.  We are also lucky enough to have our own in-house Engineers.  Our Engineers continually monitor and service our plant so that the manufactured components meets the required tolerances and conform to specifications.

This month we have been preparing for our staging date for the “Auto Enrolment Workplace Pension” and as the advert goes “we are all in”, although there has been a lot of head scratching in the office?   According to the Government website six million people are now enrolled.

The Team on the Shop Floor  have been busy keeping our customers happy and meeting their delivery deadlines, seeing many new projects take shape with our range of machinable ceramics and dry pressed components, all to the customer’s specification.
