In House Material Control

Because we manufacture our own refractory materials we have precise control over the manufacturing process from the raw materials to the ready to use formulation.

We blend our own powders to exact specifications enabling us to control the characteristics of our Ceramic Materials. Within our material processing department we can produce large or small batch sizes allowing a rapid changeover between materials.

Our forming methods are uniaxial Pressing and Extrusion.

Extrusion allows the material to be forced through a nozzle to form any exterior or interior contour as required.

Mechanical Pressing – Utilizes Carbide or steel tooling to form the outside profile and any features on the top or bottom faces of the component by compacting the material into the die.

We also use these forming methods to make blanks for further processing by “green” machining (the machining of a ceramic in an unfired state is called “green”) After green machining parts are ready to enter the firing process.

The structural change where ceramics change to be hard and dense is called firing or sintering where the ceramics are heated to a specific temperature for the particular type of ceramic and then allowed to remain at that temperature for a predetermined period (soak).  Normally the ceramics shrink in size during this process and this is allowed for at the manufacturing stage.
